The South Skunk Blues Society's Home Page

Welcome to our home on the web. The South Skunk Blues Society is made up of blues music fans and musicians located in east central Iowa, near the South Skunk River in the Newton, Baxter, Kellogg and Grinnell areas.

The South Skunk Blues Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving and cultivating Blues music. The Society promotes public performance opportunities for Blues artists, and seeks to increase the exposure to and appreciation of Blues music by the general public.

16th Bowlful of Blues Lineup

The lineup is set for this years 16th Bowlful of Blues, June 28th at Maytag Park in Newton, Iowa. The show starts off cookin' at 1:00pm with Hot Tamale and the Red Hots, followed by Thunderbird Kingsley, Jeff Banks and the Painkillers, and Sumpin' Doo, featuring Iowa Blues Hall of Fame members George and Gilbert Davis. Our headliners this year are Watermelon Slim and the Workers who, this past weeekend, were voted Blues Foundation Band of the Year at the Blues Music Awards ceremony held in Tunica, Mississippi. They also won Album of the Year for "The Wheel Man". Come out and see this award winning blues band put the pedal to the floorboards on our Bowl stage! Rob Lumbard returns to keep the music flowing between sets with some great acoustic blues. Click here for more details.

Reminder Many of your membership renewals were due in January. You can print out a copy of our memberhip form below. Fill it out, check renewal on the form and mail it off! Or come to the General Membership Meeting and renew in person. Your memberships make the Bowlful of Blues possible!
