The South Skunk Blues Society's Home PageWelcome to our home on the web. The South Skunk Blues Society is made up of blues music fans and musicians located in east central Iowa, near the South Skunk River in the Newton, Baxter, Kellogg and Grinnell areas. The South Skunk Blues Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving and cultivating Blues music. The Society promotes public performance opportunities for Blues artists, and seeks to increase the exposure to and appreciation of Blues music by the general public. News and InfoPeter Wilson has written a great article about the Blues scene in Iowa. It is the current cover story for The Iowan magazine entitled "Indigo Rhythms - Iowa Blues Color The Heartland." The story details Iowa's surprising blues music scene and how this blackest of genres has established itself in one of the whitest states in the country. Iowa's many blues societies are one of the key reasons this scene is possible.
